Atari/Kee Games Part 2
Years Active: 1975-76
Special Topic on Episode -
54 - Oubliette
Despite merging with Kee Games, Atari would continue producing under the Kee Games' name through 1978 to capitalize on the brand's good-will. During 1975, Bushnell would approve the development for a home video console, which would eventually become the Atari 2600. To help fast-track it's development and distribution, Atari looked for investors, eventually being bought out by Warner Communications in 1976 who poured over 170 million dollars into the project. Atari also settled a lawsuit from Magnavox during this period, which resulted in them needing to pay a licensing fee to Magnavox on their Pong sales, since Magnavox had published a similar type game on their home console 2 months before Pong's release.
